Catch More Ducks With These 3 Duck Hunting Tricks

If you are just starting out as a duck hunter, you may be overwhelmed by all the decoys and hunting aids out there. From duck calls to motorized decoys, you might want to buy them all. However, there are some simple tricks you can do to catch more ducks when you're out hunting. Here are three duck hunting tricks to try.

Move About and Muddy the Waters

You may think you need to stay absolutely still when hunting ducks, and while that is true at times, it is critical to know when moving is necessary.

If you have decoys, for instance, moving can help you catch ducks when you make the water look muddy. By making it look that way, you make the water look like ducks are really swimming about in the water. Just put your decoys in the water, and use your feet to kick up some of the soil in the water.

Create a Small Pond

One of the best tricks for catching ducks is to bring them to where you will be. An easy way to do this is to create a fake body of water. By creating a fake pond, ducks will be more likely to land where you'll be waiting.

How do you do this? First, you'll need some plastic sheeting. Cut it into a shape that mimics any small body of water. Next, lay the sheeting on a cleared off area of ground. If the sheeting keeps blowing away, use some rocks around the edges to keep the sheeting from moving too much.

Make sure that there aren't too many weeds or branches about to obscure view of your "pond." Lastly, sprinkle water about on the sheeting so that light will reflect off of it, making the entire scene look authentic. You will be surprised and delighted to see how many ducks mistake your fake pond for the real thing.

Bring Weed Cutters

To catch more ducks, you need to be able to hide well. The best way to do that is to always pack weed cutters. These cutters can create a hiding place where there wasn't one, and can allow you to hide effectively. If you need a hiding spot, look for an area of overgrown weeds and cut some to cover yourself with.

Now that you know some duck hunting tricks to try, start using the ideas above to catch more ducks than ever before. Your duck hunting friends will wonder how you got so lucky.
