Two Military Inflatable Boat Accessories To Consider

Inflatable military boats are heavy duty blow-up boats that can be used for recreational purposes. If you are interested in cruising on the water, but don't want to spend the money on a traditional boat, then this may be a good option for you. The boat may even be close to a traditional boat if you opt for a rigid-hull variety with an outboard motor. If you do decide to get an inflatable boat, then there are a few accessories you may want to consider as well.

Quick Fill Equipment

If you purchase an inflatable boat, then you will need to fill it with air. You may need to do this every time you intend on using the boat if you purchase a roll-up variety. Most boats will come with foot pumps that help to fill the boat. However, this can take some time, especially if you have a full size 18 foot boat. A foot pump can also make it difficult to fully inflate the boat if you do not have a lot of muscle strength. This can lead to an under-inflated boat that may not be able to hold as much weight as a fully inflated one. If you want to make sure that you inflate the boat properly, invest in a pressure gauge. Use the gauge during filling and inflate until the side chambers contain 3 pounds per square inch of pressure. The keel should hold 4.3 pounds of air pressure, and 8.7 pounds per square inch should fill the floor.

To fill the boat to the recommended air pressure, purchase a quick fill kit for the boat. One of the easiest and fastest types of fill kits utilize a scuba air tank to fill the boat with air. Purchase a kit with the necessary scuba tank adapter, hose, and fill valve. Some kits come with prefilled scuba tanks. Keep in mind that you will likely need to have the tank refilled after each use.

Motortote

If your inflatable boat has an onboard motor, then this motor will need to be attached to the solid transom mount on the boat. This means you need to lower the motor into the water after the boat is filled with air. Since motors are large and bulky, this can be difficult. Two people are typically needed to attach the boat motor. One person will need to lower the motor into the water, while the other attaches it in place. If you want this task to go smoothly, then make sure to purchase a motortote for the motor.

A motortote is an attached handle that sits on top of the motor. The motor can be gripped easily when the motor needs to be placed in the water or lifted out of it. When purchasing a motortote, look for a product that features large and wide straps that attach around the bottom and side of the motor. These straps should be made out of a strong nylon material, and the handle should have a rubber grip to keep your hand from slipping off.
